Hungry Lucy - "We Won't Go" - notes (continued)

Then came the opportunity to do something really cool involving my niece, Christina Marie. She is an aspiring young actress and I have wanted to put her in a video for a while now. For those who are not aware, when we play live, we have video in the background. Each song is a specific video and I always try to make it fit the song as much as possible without taking over the show. I wanted to put Christina in this one because we shared a love of Neil Gaiman and it made everything work so well. It was a special project with us and my niece. A truly wonderful experience.

For the art you see intertwined with the video, Christina and I spent about 4 hours drawing Wolves, walls, trees and houses at our kitchen table. Our art was similar to the original brilliant illustrations which was sort of our homage to Dave McKean. For the video itself, we shot the footage here at our home in about 3 or 4 hours. War-N was the camera man and I acted as Director, Light Girl and Glitter Applicator. Christina really delivered. She jumped right in and acted like a pro. It was nice for us not to be the ones in another of our videos. The editing process was much more tolerable looking at someone else! I used Sony Vegas to edit the video, as I have done with every other video we have, and I especially liked the Magic Bullet plug-ins. They gave such a richness to the video without overpowering it with a straight filter. I used a Spotlight plug-in on a few scenes purely out of a need to hide some things in the background! We shot some scenes in the basement of our house and there are boxes and other things lying on the floor. Christina is crawling in the final scene and she passes a big packing box and a laundry detergent bottle. I used the spotlight to darken her surroundings and just highlight her face. It also translated that she was "searching" for something. I think it worked pretty well. She was happy with it too, thank goodness.

I liked that we could put so much of ourselves into this project and yet it was inspired by another artist. Thank you Neil, Dave and Patrick for allowing us to be involved in such a superb project! Also, thank you Christina for trusting us with your first ever video. You were, and always are, brilliant!! I hope to do it again someday. This whole process has been something we will always hold dear and remember. Now, we can't wait to hear the rest of the songs involved! The disc is called "Where is Neil When You Need Him?" and it involves 17 wonderfully talented bands/musicians. Within it's pages are Dave McKean's illustrations, Neil's words and also an introduction by Gerard Way of the band My Chemical Romance. What more could you ask for?
